Plans for TSS Senior Squad 2022/23

Overarching goals

The TSS Senior Squad is a high performance group, and this year plans include moving forward and gaining an edge by putting sculling back into Scullers!
Yes our sweep goals remain, the Wargrave and Wyfold are still out there, HORR and WeHORR beckon, but we want to leverage our great sculling heritage too.

As they say, “If you can scull you can sweep,” and evidence suggests that scullers make stronger fitter sweep rowers.

Initial plans/ outline of training
Sunday 4th September 12pm The season starts with Whole Club Bbq Social followed by a senior squad meeting.
Autumn - Training will have an initial focus on small boats and an emphasis on water work in the better weather and increased land training in the winter and poor weather.

The week will feature 8 -10 sessions depending on proximity/ preparation for specific events with most training sessions in the evenings and weekend to facilitate recovery and minimize fatigue. Fridays will be the squad day off.

Spring to Summer – Moving into bigger boats as specific goals approach but maintaining the sculling flex to offer distinctive and broader competitive opportunities enabling TSS to approach a wider range of events, not just Remenham, Wargrave and Wyfold but Prince of Wales and Princess Grace too

Camps – Probably UK centric and focused in the south for better weather – accessible and cost effective

Social

Plans include more all club events including TT, races and regular Thursday gatherings. After our initial bbq we will have regular dates for all club gatherings especially on Thursday evenings.

Coaching Team

Led by Ben Lewis (ex Leander, Molesey and Thames,10 HRR wins between 2007 and 2019 and multiple athletes to Olympic, Senior, U23 and Junior GB vests in both rowing and sculling) supported by Willem Hagemans (ex Netherlands competitive rower and professional coach of more than 10 years experience).

Other coaches in our great team will be involved as needed.
